VEC Chairperson

Gloria Machnowski

    Gloria Machnowski joined the Verona Environmental Commission in 2009. Gloria developed the commission's website, helped to implement a zero net loss of trees policy, ban Styrofoam from the school district cafeterias, and ban pesticides from the township's playing fields. Gloria managed multi-tiered recycling and anti-idling educational campaigns, community cleanups and Earth Day events. After serving as the Vice Chair for two years, Gloria was appointed VEC Chairperson in 2013. Like all VEC members, she serves without compensation. Gloria is also a member of Sustainable Verona, and she leads the SCA Beautification Committee at H. B. Whitehorne Middle School.

    Gloria has been living in Verona with her husband and two children since 2007, she is fluent in Spanish, and enjoys outdoor activities. She has a bachelor's degree in Social Communication Sciences from Buenos Aires University and extensive experience in digital imaging and video editing. Since 2005 Gloria has been working for the Gruss Lipper Digital Laboratory at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. She is currently a Senior Photographer, responsible for the digitization of rare and fragile collection materials and the creation of digital surrogates. Previously she worked as a photographer for the Digital Imaging Unit at the New York Public Library. She has also worked for the New York Consulate General of Argentina and Lincoln Road Studios, in addition to a wide range of freelance work.
